Line choice
Also known as: picking a line, riding line, line selection
The path a rider, skier or paddler picks through terrain or water, and how footage can show that decision and why it mattered.

What it means
A line is the exact path through a section: which side of a rock garden, which gap between trees, which tongue of water through a rapid. Line choice is the decision behind it, and in mountain biking, freeride skiing and whitewater it often separates a smooth run from a crash.
For video, line choice is a storytelling opportunity. A viewer who understands that there was a hard line and an easy line suddenly cares which one the rider takes. Showing the section first, then the run, turns a fast blur of POV into a story with tension, a technique that works especially well in enduro and whitewater edits.
How it works in practice
Film the section before riding it. A few seconds of a rider walking or scouting the line, pointing out the drop or the gap, sets up what follows. Then film the run from a chest mount, which shows the bars and the terrain ahead and makes line choice readable.
A second angle from the side or below shows the whole line at once. Combined with POV, it lets the viewer see both the decision and the result.
For skiing, a wide drone view or a long-lens shot from the opposite slope shows the full face and the chosen path through it.
What to watch out for
Helmet and POV footage flattens terrain, so steep, technical lines often look easy on screen. A wide fisheye lens makes it worse. Lower mounts and side angles restore the sense of steepness.
Riding a line beyond your skill for the camera is how injuries happen. Film what you can ride confidently; the footage is only worth it if you ride away.
Scouting footage drags if it runs too long. Keep the setup short and let the run itself carry the moment. Two or three seconds of the rider pointing at the gap is usually all the viewer needs.
How RawClip handles it
RawClip looks for motion, jumps and peak action across all your clips, so fast, committed riding through a technical line is likely to be kept. Upload both POV and side angles, and the AI cuts the strongest moments to the beat.
