Loop recording
Also known as: looping video, dashcam mode, continuous loop
A mode where the camera records continuously and overwrites the oldest footage when the card fills up, keeping only a recent window, like a dashcam.

What it means
In loop recording, the camera keeps recording without stopping, but it only keeps a set amount of footage, for example the last 5, 20 or 60 minutes, or as much as the card allows. When the limit is reached, the oldest segment is deleted to make room. When something happens, you stop recording and the important moments are saved.
It is the same idea that dashcams use. Action cameras offer it for riders and drivers who want to capture unexpected events, such as a crash, a wildlife encounter or a close call on the road, without filling cards with hours of footage.
Loop recording usually splits footage into short segments, much like chaptered files, so only the oldest piece is overwritten each time.
How it works in practice
Motorcyclists and cyclists use it on a handlebar or helmet mount as a safety and evidence camera. Set an interval long enough to cover the time it takes you to stop safely after an incident, and use external power for long rides.
For action sports, a related feature, HindSight, records a few seconds before you press the button, which is often more useful than full loop recording when you only want the moment itself.
Stopping the recording after an event is the key step, because a camera left running will eventually overwrite it.
What to watch out for
Forgetting to stop the camera means the moment you wanted is gone after the loop interval passes. Practice the stop action so it becomes automatic.
Constant recording generates heat and drains batteries quickly. Use external power, ventilation, and a lower resolution if you loop for hours, to avoid overheating shutdowns.
Memory cards wear out faster under constant overwriting. Use high-endurance cards designed for dashcams or security cameras, and replace them periodically. A card that has been overwritten thousands of times can fail without warning, usually on the day you need the footage most. Keep a spare in the bike bag or glovebox.
How RawClip handles it
Loop recording leaves short segments on the card. Copy the ones that matter and upload them to RawClip in one order, and the AI cuts the key moments of your ride into one highlight.
