Banger clip

Also known as: banger, money shot

The single best moment on a card, the one clip a whole session was worth filming for and the one an edit is built around.

Updated

What it means

Every session has one. The biggest air, the cleanest barrel, the one run where everything held together, and a rider knows which clip it is before the card is read. Finding it is never the hard part.

Its role in an edit is structural. It sits at the Climax rather than at the start, because everything before it is building and nothing after it can follow it.

The opposite placement is also valid. Opening on it as a Hook buys attention and spends the best material immediately, which works for short formats and not for long ones.

How it works in practice

Protecting it starts on the card. The banger gets copied twice, trimmed generously and otherwise left alone, because the one file nobody can reshoot should not be the one experimented on.

Coverage decides how well it cuts. The same moment from a Chase cam and a mounted angle gives an editor two bites at it, and that is what makes a short clip carry a long passage.

Slow motion is the usual treatment. A Speed ramping approach into the impact and out again gives the moment weight without holding on it long enough to lose tension.

What to watch out for

Overusing it is the common failure. Three cuts back to the same jump turn the best moment of the day into the most repetitive part of the edit, and a viewer stops being impressed on the second pass.

It can also be structurally wrong. A clip that is objectively impressive but unreadable at speed, or shot from a position that explains nothing, loses to a smaller moment with better Continuity.

Automatic selection ranks on what it can measure. A banger with camera shake and bad light scores below a clean mediocre clip, and Shot scoring has no way to know which one the rider cares about.

How RawClip handles it

The strongest moments are surfaced by scoring rather than nominated in advance, and a dramatic clip with poor picture quality can lose to a cleaner one. Where a specific moment matters most, saying so in the brief is more reliable than hoping the ranking agrees.
