How-to guides for highlight videos

Practical, step-by-step answers to the jobs that come after filming: getting files off each camera or drone, filming a sport so the footage cuts well, and turning hours of it into a video people will watch.

Cameras and drones

  1. GoPro How to make a highlight video from GoPro footage Copy the MP4 files from the GoPro card with a card reader, keeping every chapter of each recording, and upload them to RawClip without trimming or sorting anything. The analysis finds the best moments across all clips and then offers several highlight lengths based on how much usable action it found. You pick one, and the finished video comes back in 4K and 1080p.
  2. DJI Osmo Action How to edit DJI Osmo Action footage into a highlight Move the MP4 files from the Osmo Action to a computer with a card reader or the USB-C cable, leaving the .LRF preview files behind, and upload all of them to RawClip as they came off the camera. After the analysis you choose from several highlight lengths worked out from your clips, and the video is rendered in 4K and 1080p.
  3. DJI Osmo Pocket How to make a highlight from DJI Osmo Pocket footage Copy the MP4 files from the Osmo Pocket over USB-C or from the microSD card, and decide whether you want a horizontal or a vertical result, because the Pocket records both. Upload every clip of that orientation to RawClip, wait for the analysis, then choose one of the lengths it calculates from your footage.
  4. Insta360 How to make a highlight from Insta360 360 footage Insta360 X-series cameras save 360 video as .insv files, which editors and RawClip cannot open directly. Reframe each clip to a flat view and export it as MP4 in Insta360 Studio or the Insta360 app, then upload the exported files to RawClip and pick one of the lengths it offers after the analysis.
  5. Sony How to make a highlight from Sony camera footage Sony cameras such as the FDR-X3000 Action Cam, the ZV-1 II, the ZV-E10 II and the RX0 II store movies as MP4 files in XAVC S or XAVC HS. Copy the files from the CLIP folder (not the SUB proxy folder) to your computer, upload them to RawClip unchanged, and choose a highlight length from the options the analysis prepares.
  6. DJI Mini How to make a highlight video from DJI Mini drone footage Copy the videos from the DJI Mini to a computer with a USB cable or a card reader, check the internal storage on the Mini 5 Pro, and keep portrait and landscape clips in separate orders. Upload the flights to RawClip as they are, and after the analysis choose a highlight length from the options it calculates.
  7. DJI Air & Mavic How to edit DJI Air and Mavic footage into a highlight Copy all flights from the DJI Air or Mavic to a computer, including clips from the tele cameras and anything saved to internal storage, and grade or convert D-Log M clips if you used it. Upload the files to RawClip as they are; the analysis compares every clip and then offers highlight lengths that match what it found.
  8. FPV drones How to edit FPV drone footage into a highlight Use the recording saved on the FPV drone itself rather than the goggles copy, which is lower quality and may carry on-screen overlays. Stabilise it in the camera or afterwards with Gyroflow, upload the clips to RawClip, and choose one of the highlight lengths it suggests once the analysis has scored every pack.

Sports

  1. Surfing How to make a highlight video from surf footage Surf footage is mostly paddling and waiting, with a few seconds of riding per wave, so film a lot and let the selection happen afterwards. Upload every clip from the board mount, mouth mount and the beach to RawClip as it is, and choose a highlight length from the options it builds out of the waves it found.
  2. Ski & snowboard How to make a highlight video from ski and snowboard footage Film whole runs with a helmet or pole camera, keep spare batteries warm in an inside pocket, and add a few clips of friends riding past. Upload the full week of files to RawClip without cutting the lift rides out, then choose one of the highlight lengths the analysis suggests for your runs.
  3. Scuba diving How to make a highlight video from scuba diving footage Below a few metres water absorbs red light, so dive footage turns blue-green unless you use a red filter, a video light or colour correction. Shoot each dive with the camera in a rated dive housing, upload all the clips to RawClip, and choose one of the highlight lengths it calculates from the marine life and moments it found.
  4. Skydiving How to make a highlight video from skydiving footage Each jump file holds the plane ride, the exit, a minute or so of freefall and the canopy flight, and the exit and freefall are what people want to see. Upload every jump from your helmet camera to RawClip without trimming, and choose a highlight length from the options it builds from the strongest moments of all jumps.
  5. Wakeboarding How to make a highlight video from wakeboarding footage At a cable park, film from the dock or a tower with a phone or camera on a tripod; behind a boat, a boom or pylon mount gives a steady follow shot of the rider. Upload every set and every angle to RawClip, and pick a highlight length from the options it calculates from the tricks and falls it found.
  6. Rafting How to make a highlight video from rafting footage Put a waterproof camera on a helmet or chest mount with a float attached, and let it run through every rapid. Upload the whole day from all cameras in the boat, plus any clips filmed from the bank, to RawClip, and pick a highlight length from the options it calculates from the rapids and splashes it found.
  7. MMA & sparring How to make a highlight video from MMA sparring footage Put one camera on a tripod at the edge of the mat or ring, high enough to see over people standing in front, and record whole rounds without stopping. Upload every round to RawClip, phone clips from teammates included, and choose one of the highlight lengths it suggests from the exchanges, takedowns and scrambles it found.
  8. Mountain biking How to make a highlight video from mountain bike footage A chest mount gives the most natural mountain bike view because it shows the bars and the trail ahead, while a helmet mount follows where you look. Film every lap or stage, upload all of it to RawClip, and choose a highlight length from the options it builds from the jumps, drops and fast sections it found.
  9. Motocross How to make a highlight video from motocross footage Mount the camera on top or on the side of the helmet, or on a chest harness, with the lens lined up with your goggles, and film every moto or practice session. Upload all the files to RawClip without trimming the pits, and pick one of the highlight lengths it calculates from the jumps, ruts and overtakes it found.
