Cable park

Also known as: wake park, cable wakeboarding, cable ski

A wakeboard park where riders are towed by an overhead cable system around a lake, past kickers, boxes and rails, instead of behind a boat.

Updated

What it means

A cable park replaces the boat with an overhead cable running around a lake or pond, usually between four or five towers. Riders hold a handle attached to the moving cable and are pulled around the circuit, hitting obstacles such as kickers, rails and boxes placed along the way. Smaller two-tower systems pull a single rider back and forth.

For filming, cable parks are a gift: the course is fixed, riders pass the same features every lap, and you can stand on the shore close to the action. That predictability is similar to a snow park lap, and it makes cable parks ideal for collecting many attempts of one trick.

How it works in practice

Set up on the shore next to the busiest feature, with a tripod or handheld camera framing the obstacle and some of the approach. Riders pass every few minutes, so you can film many attempts and keep the best.

A helmet or chest POV adds the rider's view of the obstacle and the cable above. Some riders mount a camera on the handle, looking back at their face.

Shoot at 60-120 fps for slowed tricks, and lock exposure for the bright water. A second rider can film from the water, wearing a camera while riding behind.

What to watch out for

The view from the same spot repeats quickly. Move around the lake to vary angles, and keep only the best attempts of each feature.

Cable parks have rules on cameras and drones, especially overhead, because of the cable. Ask staff before flying and never fly near the cable towers.

Water and falls are part of the sport. Secure every camera with a leash or tether and treat lenses so drops slide off. Riders also fall in front of the next rider on busy days, so keep filming positions out of the path of anyone coming off the cable.

How RawClip handles it

RawClip handles a cable park day well: upload clips from shore and POV cameras, and the AI removes repeated laps and waiting, keeps jumps and peak action, and cuts the best tricks to the beat in one highlight.
