Inclusion threshold

Also known as: selection threshold, cut-off score

The level a clip has to reach before it makes the edit, set deliberately because the choice decides both length and quality.

Updated

What it means

Any selection has a boundary, stated or not. Above it clips are in, below it they are out, and where the line sits is the biggest single decision about an edit. Everything else arranges what survived.

Moving it changes two things at once. A lower threshold makes a longer edit with weaker material; a higher one makes a short edit that holds throughout. Neither is wrong; they are different edits.

It is the explicit version of what Shot scoring does implicitly, and naming it turns an argument about taste into an argument about a number.

How it works in practice

Setting it by target length is the usual method. Deciding on ninety seconds fixes the threshold indirectly, because only the strongest clips fit. Length and standard are the same dial.

Threshold tuning is the same idea applied to detection rather than to selection. One decides what counts as a moment, the other decides which of those moments make the edit itself.

The honest test is the weakest included clip, which is also what a Keeper rate measures across a session. If it is embarrassing next to the others, the line is too low.

What to watch out for

Attachment pushes it down. Every clip a rider remembers earning gets argued above the line, and a selection made by the person who was there is reliably too generous.

A fixed length forces it the other way. Cutting to fit a track can exclude a moment that deserved to be there, which is why an Edit brief and a length are decided together.

Automatic selection applies the same line everywhere. A quiet session and a strong one get the same standard unless the target changes, so a flat day produces a shorter result rather than a weaker one.

How RawClip handles it

The threshold is effectively set by the target length and the strength of what was filmed: a dense session produces a longer sequence and a quiet one a shorter one. Asking for a specific duration moves the line, which is the lever when a platform needs a fixed shape.
