Long-range FPV
Also known as: LR FPV, mountain surfing, long range cruising
FPV flying focused on covering large distances and following terrain such as mountain ridges, using efficient drones and strong radio links.

What it means
Long-range FPV pilots fly efficient drones with larger propellers, bigger batteries and robust radio and video links. The goal is to explore: following a ridge down from a summit, flying along a coastline or diving down a mountain face. The style is sometimes called mountain surfing.
Long range in this sense is relative, and in most places legal limits on visual line of sight restrict how far pilots can actually fly. Many pilots fly long-range style lines within legal distances or with spotters along the route.
The footage shows huge landscapes from a fast, low perspective that camera drones rarely capture.
How it works in practice
Plan flights carefully: check weather, wind at altitude, terrain and legal restrictions. Set failsafe behavior, and many long-range builds include GPS for a return function similar to Return to Home.
Monitor battery voltage and signal strength constantly, and turn back early. Flying downhill or downwind out means a harder return, so plan the route so the hard part comes first while the battery is fresh.
For footage, an onboard action camera with post stabilization gives smooth, epic results. Slow, flowing lines along terrain look better than aggressive tricks for this style. Following a ridge at a steady height above the ground shows the scale of the landscape best.
What to watch out for
Losing a drone far away in mountains is common and often final. Video and control links degrade behind ridges. Stay within range and line of sight, and use a video link you know well rather than a new one on an important flight.
Many countries prohibit flying beyond visual line of sight without special permission. Exceeding legal limits risks fines and endangers other airspace users. This is general information, not legal advice.
Cold, wind and altitude reduce battery performance. A battery that lasts 15 minutes at home may give far less on a mountain, so plan reserves generously and watch flight time.
How RawClip handles it
RawClip does not stabilize footage, so stabilize your long-range clips before upload. Then add them to your trip footage, and the AI picks the most stunning moments for one highlight.
