Montage
Also known as: montage sequence, edit sequence, sports montage
A sequence of short shots cut together, usually to music, to compress time, show progression or build energy. The backbone of most action edits.

What it means
A montage combines many brief shots into one flowing sequence. In films, montages compress time, such as a training sequence that shows weeks of practice in about a minute. In action sports, a montage is often the whole video: a series of jumps, turns, waves and views edited to a track.
The term comes from editing theory, where the meaning of a sequence comes from how shots are combined, not only from what each one shows. Placing a calm view next to a wild crash creates a contrast that neither shot has alone.
A highlight reel is essentially a montage of the best moments of a session or trip.
How it works in practice
Choose music first, since its tempo and structure shape the whole montage from start to finish. Use the intro for establishing shots, the build for increasingly exciting clips, and the drop or chorus for the biggest moments.
Vary angles and shot sizes: POV, third-person, drone, close-up. Repeating the same angle for every clip makes a montage feel flat, even if each moment is strong. A drone shot or a close-up between POV clips resets the eye.
Cut to the music with beat sync, and use a few longer shots to let the viewer breathe between bursts of fast cuts.
What to watch out for
Montages without structure become a random string of clips. Give the sequence a shape, from quiet to intense, or from morning to sunset, so it follows a simple story arc.
Too many similar clips in a row, such as ten nearly identical turns, kill momentum. Pick the best one or two and move on, even if the others are good too.
Long montages lose attention. For social platforms, shorter and tighter usually works better, while longer films need a story or variety to hold viewers. When in doubt, cut it shorter.
How RawClip handles it
RawClip builds a montage automatically. Upload your clips, choose the length, and the AI selects the best moments, orders them and cuts them to the beat of the music for one highlight.
