Rhythm editing
Also known as: rhythmic editing, cutting to music, musical editing
Editing where the timing of cuts follows a rhythm, usually the music, so picture and sound feel locked together. It goes beyond hitting every beat.

What it means
Rhythm editing treats cuts like musical notes. The length of each shot and the moment of each cut follow a pattern, often the beat of the soundtrack, but also the rhythm of the action itself: pedal strokes, paddle strokes, footsteps or turns. When the pattern works, viewers feel the edit rather than notice it.
Simple beat sync puts cuts on beats. Rhythm editing is broader. It may cut on every second beat in the verse, every beat in the chorus, on accents or drum fills, and occasionally against the beat for surprise. It also lets motion within shots carry the rhythm, such as a turn that lands exactly on a snare hit.
Good rhythm makes even simple footage feel energetic and purposeful.
How it works in practice
Listen to the track first and mark the beats, bars and big moments with markers. Plan where the strongest clips will land, such as the drop or the final chorus.
Vary the pattern with the music. A slow intro might use one shot per bar, the build two per bar, and the peak a cut on every beat. Align the peak of each action, a landing or a spray of snow, with a beat rather than just the start of the clip.
Watch with sound and without. If the edit still feels rhythmic on mute, the visual rhythm is working.
What to watch out for
Cutting mechanically on every beat for the whole video becomes monotonous. Change the pattern as the music changes, and let a few shots breathe across several beats.
Forcing a clip to a beat when the action does not fit leads to awkward cuts, such as cutting away just before a landing. Sometimes it is better to let a shot run across a beat and cut on the next accent instead.
Music with an unclear or changing tempo is hard to edit rhythmically. Choose tracks with a clear pulse for action edits, and check the BPM before committing.
How RawClip handles it
RawClip edits rhythmically for you. The AI aligns cuts to the beat of the music and places the strongest moments where they land best, building a highlight that feels in sync from start to finish.
