Session

Also known as: riding session, surf session, shred session

One continuous outing of riding, surfing or flying, from gearing up to packing away, and the natural unit for filming and editing action video.

What it means

In action sports a session is one outing: a morning surf, an afternoon at the bike park, a day on the mountain, an evening of drone flights. It has a start, a middle and an end, and that natural shape makes it the most common unit for a highlight video.

A session edit tells the story of that outing. It might open with the drive or the first view, build through warm-up runs to the best moments, and end with tired faces at the car. Thinking in sessions keeps a video focused instead of mixing unrelated days, and gives it a simple story arc for free.

How it works in practice

Plan the filming around the session shape. Grab a few opening shots on arrival, such as gear, the spot and an establishing shot, then film the action, then remember the ending: the sunset, the walk back, the team photo.

A long session produces a lot of raw footage. One helmet camera recording continuously for three hours can fill a 128 GB card, so carry spare cards and batteries and keep files from each session in their own folder.

If several people film, collect everyone's clips the same evening while memories are fresh and nothing has been deleted to free space.

What to watch out for

The biggest risk is too little variety. Hours of the same POV angle produce a monotonous edit. Swap mounts mid-session or hand a camera to a friend for a while.

Dead time piles up: lift rides, paddling out, waiting for the group. Use pause or loop features sensibly, or accept that the edit will remove a lot, often more than half of what you recorded.

Do not forget the ending. Many edits stop abruptly at the last good clip, which feels unfinished. A closing shot that signals the session is over gives the video a proper end.

How RawClip handles it

RawClip is built for session edits: upload every clip from the outing, from several cameras and in any order, and the AI keeps the best moments, removes dead time and duplicates and cuts one highlight at the length you choose.

Skip the editing. Keep the best moments.

Upload your raw footage and get a finished highlight in 4K and 1080p - no timeline, no editing skills.
