Enduro

Also known as: enduro mountain biking, enduro racing

Mountain biking where the descents are timed and the climbs are not, which means long days, one attempt per stage and no lift.

What it means

Enduro sits between downhill and cross-country. Riders climb under their own power and are timed only on the way down, which produces very long days with a handful of genuinely flat-out descents inside them.

The filming consequence is that nothing repeats. An Enduro stage is ridden once, at race pace, and a filmer who was in the wrong place has no second chance at it at all.

It differs from Downhill in exactly that respect. A lift-served track can be filmed four times from four positions, and an enduro stage cannot be filmed a second time at all.

How it works in practice

Worn cameras do most of the work. A helmet or chest position records the whole stage regardless of where anybody is standing, which makes it the only reliable coverage of a race run.

Battery discipline decides what exists. A long day with climbs in it means a camera cannot simply run continuously, so Loop recording or deliberate starts and stops are the difference between coverage and a dead battery.

A filmer picks one feature and commits. Hiking to a single corner and filming everybody through it produces a usable section, where trying to follow a stage produces nothing.

What to watch out for

Hours of climbing produce hours of nothing. A camera left running on a transition fills a card with Dead time, and the review afterwards consists mostly of listening to somebody breathe.

Light changes through a long day. A stage at nine and a stage at four need different settings and separate Color matching, which is work created by the format rather than by anybody choice.

Race pace is faster than practice pace. Positions scouted during a practice run are frequently wrong for the real one, and the rider arrives considerably earlier than the filmer expected.

How RawClip handles it

Long worn-camera recordings with climbs in them are exactly the input this handles, since the stages get found inside the file rather than needing to be separated first. The climbing is filtered out as dead time rather than reviewed by anybody.
