The one beat a finished edit exists to deliver, judged by its effect in context rather than by how impressive the action itself was.

What it means
A hero moment is what somebody describes when asked what they watched. It is a single beat, and an edit without one is a collection. Nothing in it is the reason it exists.
It sits close to a Banger clip without being the same thing. A banger is judged on the action; a hero moment is judged on the effect it has where it lands.
Calm footage can be the hero. A drone pulling back off a ridge at the end, or a held shot of a wave closing out, frequently does more than the biggest trick on the card, because it is what the day felt like.
How it works in practice
Finding it is a watching exercise rather than a scoring one. The clip that survives a second viewing without being skipped is usually the one, whatever the ranking said. Repetition is the honest test.
Placement decides whether it works. At the Climax it lands with everything behind it pushing; at the opening it works as a Hook and spends itself immediately.
Treatment should mark it. A held beat, a drop in the music or a Slow motion pass tells a viewer this is the thing, without a caption explaining it, and that marking is half the effect.
What to watch out for
Nominating it in advance is unreliable. The moment that felt biggest on the day frequently plays smaller on screen, and the reverse happens just as often. The footage decides, not the memory.
Scoring cannot see context. Shot scoring measures what is in a clip and not what the clip does after four other shots, so a quiet hero moment ranks low on its own.
Two of them is none. An edit with a second contender dilutes the first, which is the same problem that arises when a sequence builds to a peak twice.
