Magnetic quick-release
Also known as: magnetic mount system, quick-release mount, DJI magnetic mount
A mounting system that snaps a camera onto mounts with magnets and clips, so you can swap between helmet, bike and handheld setups without screws.

What it means
Traditional action camera mounts use interlocking fingers and a thumbscrew. Magnetic quick-release systems, used by DJI Osmo Action cameras and many accessory makers, replace that with a plate that snaps on with strong magnets and locks with mechanical clips. The camera comes off with a squeeze and goes back on in a second.
The appeal is speed. Switching from a chest mount to a handheld grip or a car mount takes a moment, which matters when you want to catch several angles in one day without fiddling with screws in the cold. Gloves stay on, and the camera spends more time recording and less time in your hands.
How it works in practice
Most systems offer both horizontal and vertical attachment, so you can switch orientation for vertical social clips without extra brackets. Adapters convert the magnetic plate to standard mounting fingers or a 1/4-inch thread, so older mounts still work. That means you can keep using the helmet and bar mounts you already own instead of replacing your whole collection when you change camera brands.
For hard use, the mechanical clips are what really hold the camera. Make sure both sides click fully into place, and listen for the snap. On high-vibration mounts such as motorcycles, many riders add a tether as a backup, since a camera lost at speed is rarely found.
What to watch out for
Magnets attract dirt, sand and metal grit, which can stop the clips from locking. Rinse and dry the plate after beach or dusty days, and check it before mounting. A half-latched camera may hold on a walk and fall off on the first bump.
Magnets and compasses do not mix well. Mounting a strong magnet close to a drone, a bike computer or a dive compass can disturb its readings. Keep magnetic mounts away from navigation gear, and do not rely on magnetism alone for extreme mounts like a roll bar on rough terrain.
How RawClip handles it
RawClip works with the clips, not the mounts, but quick swaps mean more angles from one day. Upload helmet, chest and handheld clips together, and the AI mixes them into one varied highlight.
