Suction cup mount
Also known as: suction mount, car suction mount
A mount that holds a camera to smooth surfaces like car windows, hoods or boat hulls with a vacuum cup, giving vehicle angles without drilling or tape.

What it means
A suction cup mount uses a rubber cup and a lever or pump to create a vacuum against a smooth, non-porous surface. Strong versions hold an action camera securely on a car windshield, a door panel, the hood, the side of a boat or a glossy surfboard deck.
They are one of the easiest ways to get vehicle footage: a view over the hood on a mountain pass, a side angle of the wheel on a track day, or a shot of the driver through the windshield. No permanent fixing is needed, and they move between vehicles quickly, which suits track days and road trips alike.
Quality matters a lot, because a weak cup can slowly lose pressure.
How it works in practice
Clean both the surface and the cup before mounting. Dust, wax, water and grit break the seal. Press the cup flat, lock the lever, and give it a firm tug test. Mounting on flat glass is more reliable than on curved or textured paint.
Keep the arm short to reduce vibration, and point the camera away from direct sun on the dashboard side if mounting inside. For outside mounts at speed, always add a tether to a solid point, so a failing cup does not send the camera onto the road.
For interior shots, a car mount on the dashboard or headrest can be steadier than suction on a window.
What to watch out for
Temperature changes affect suction. A cup mounted in cool morning air can loosen in hot afternoon sun, or the other way around. Re-check the mount during long sessions.
Vibration on rough roads and at high speed can blur footage and slowly work the cup loose. Use stabilization, check the clip on a short test run, and consider a roll bar or bolted mount for off-road vehicles.
Local laws may restrict mounting objects on windshields or the outside of vehicles. Check the rules where you drive, and never place the camera where it blocks the driver view or the airbag.
How RawClip handles it
Vehicle clips from a suction mount upload to RawClip like any other footage. Combine them with helmet and handheld clips from the same trip, and the AI picks the strongest moments for one highlight.
