QuikCapture

Also known as: GoPro QuikCapture, one-button recording

A GoPro feature that powers the camera on and starts recording with a single press of the shutter button, then turns it off again when you stop.

Updated

What it means

With QuikCapture enabled, the camera does not need to be switched on first. A single press of the shutter button wakes it and starts recording straight away, and another press stops the clip and powers the camera back down. Holding the button can start a time-lapse instead, depending on the model.

The feature exists for two reasons: speed and battery. You can catch a moment that would be over by the time a camera boots normally, and the camera spends most of the day fully off instead of sitting in standby and slowly draining the battery.

How it works in practice

It is ideal for activities with short bursts of action and long waits, such as surfing, lift-served skiing or downhill laps. Press once as you paddle into a wave or drop into a run, press again at the end, and you get one tidy clip per attempt instead of an hour of footage with a few seconds of action.

Riders who mount the camera on a helmet often learn to find the button by feel. Some add a remote or use voice commands for the same effect without reaching up. Check that the camera starts in the mode you expect, since the last used mode may carry over.

What to watch out for

The camera still needs a moment to start, so a press at the very last second can miss the beginning of the action. Start slightly earlier than you think, and let the clip run a few seconds past the end so the edit has room for a smooth cut.

It is also easy to press once and believe you are recording when the camera only woke up or was full. Watch for the light and beep, keep a spare card, and check after each session. A missing clip is far harder to fix than a few seconds of extra dead time at the start or end.

How RawClip handles it

Short QuikCapture clips are ideal input for RawClip. Upload every clip from the day in one order, and the AI picks the strongest attempts, trims what is left and edits them into one highlight synced to music.
