Short-form edit
Also known as: short edit, short-form video
An edit under about a minute, built for a vertical feed where the opening moments decide whether anything else gets watched.

What it means
Short form is a different format rather than a trimmed long one. Under a minute there is no room for a build, so the structure is a strong opening followed by density.
The platform defines it. A YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels slot is vertical, loops, and starts with the sound off, and each of those changes what the edit has to do.
It is the opposite trade from a Long-form edit. One spends its material immediately; the other rations it across minutes. The same card serves both and never in the same cut.
How it works in practice
The first moment carries everything. A Hook in the opening frames is what buys the rest, and a slow establishing shot is a decision to lose most of the audience. There is no patience to spend.
Vertical framing is planned rather than cropped. Filming with the centre of the frame usable means an Aspect ratio crop does not throw away the subject, and framing for it is free on location.
Text replaces sound. Autoplay runs silent, so a Burned-in subtitle or an on-screen label does the work a voiceover would in a longer piece with sound expected.
What to watch out for
Loops change the ending. A clip that returns to its first frame reads as continuous, so a Seamless loop is worth more than a closing shot in this format.
Density becomes monotony fast. Twelve cuts with no variation read as a Supercut of nothing in particular, and a viewer leaves at the point the pattern becomes predictable.
It is not a smaller version of the long edit. Cutting a three-minute sequence down to forty seconds keeps the structure and loses the content, which produces a trailer. All of it is still Video editing, with less room.
How RawClip handles it
A short vertical version is produced by assembling against a shorter target and cropping with the subject tracked, rather than by trimming a long result down. The strongest moment moves to the front, which is the structural difference between the two formats rather than a matter of duration.
