Travel montage
Also known as: travel sequence, journey montage
A run of short shots of places, movement and weather, cut to music with no dialogue, compressing days into a minute by association.

What it means
A travel montage works by accumulation rather than by sequence. A train window, a market, a road, a sunset, none of them explaining the next and all of them building the same single impression.
It is a Montage with a specific subject, which is being somewhere. The shots are not action and are not establishing; they are texture, and nothing in any of them has to actually happen.
The form tolerates almost anything visually. Phone clips, drone shots and a handheld pan sit together because nobody expects continuity between them. The looseness is part of what the form is.
How it works in practice
Music chooses the length and the rhythm. Cuts land on a Beat grid and the montage runs as long as the phrase does, which is why the track is picked first and everything else follows from it.
Short shots work better than good ones. A second and a half each keeps the accumulation moving, and a shot held long enough to study breaks the effect. Impression beats information here.
Variety does the work selection usually does. Alternating scale, light and movement matters more than any individual clip, which is the opposite of how a Trip film is assembled.
What to watch out for
It becomes wallpaper quickly. Beyond thirty or forty seconds the accumulation stops adding and a viewer waits for something to happen, which is a Pacing limit rather than a content one.
It cannot carry an edit alone. A Vlog edit or a session edit uses one as a passage between sections, and an entire piece made of montage has no shape at all.
Automatic selection has nothing to score. Texture shots have no action, so Shot scoring ranks them below riding, and a montage passage is a structural request rather than a ranking outcome.
How RawClip handles it
Quieter texture shots are kept and used around the action rather than discarded, since a sequence of nothing but peaks is exhausting to watch for a minute. A montage passage as a deliberate section is something to ask for in the brief.
